Saturday in the WNBA

Saturday, June 28, 2008 – There were four games on the WNBA schedule on Saturday.

The San Antonio Silver Stars (9-6) defeated the Minnesota Lynx (8-7), 73-65. nicky anosike

The Lynx’ Seimone Augustus was out with the stomach flu, which made the Silver Stars’ task a bit easier. For the Silver Stars, Sophia Young scored 20 points, and Ann Wauters added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Nicky Anosike for the Lynx was a defensive and offensive force, scoring 16 points. Rookie guard Candice Wiggins finished with 15 points.

The Chicago Sky (4-9) defeated the Detroit Shock (12-5), 76-59.

Entering the night, the Chicago Sky had lost 5 in a row, so they needed this win bad. Candice Dupree scored 18 points, and Jia Perkins and Dominique Canty both put in 14.

For the Shock, guard Katie Smith had seven points and three assists. Shay Murphy scored 13, rookie Alexis Hornbuckle put in 11.

The Houston Comets (7-8) defeated the Indiana Fever (7-8) 75-61.

The Comets extended their winning streak to four straight. Matee Ajavon scored a season-high 24 points for the Comets.

For the Fever, Tammy Sutton-Brown scored 13, and Tameka Catchings added 10.

The Sacramento Monarchs (7-8) defeated the New York Liberty (7-7), 82-78.

Shooting guard Kara Lawson, who had come off the bench for most of her career for the Monarchs, became a starter this year. She scored 21 points in tonight’s game. Nicole Powell put in 17 points and five rebounds, and Rebekkah Brunson put in 14 points and seven rebounds.

For the Liberty, Shameka Christon put in 17 points, and Janel McCarville put in 13.
