Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine has become the third United States basketballer forced into health and safety protocol putting his availability for the Tokyo Olympics in doubt.

LaVine will not travel with Team USA to Tokyo on Monday, although USA Basketball (USAB) stated he may still arrive in time.

The Bulls talent produced some big dunks in USA’s 83-76 win over Spain on Sunday, as the side completed their Olympic preparations in Las Vegas.

“Zach LaVine has been placed under USA Basketballs health & safety protocols & will not travel with the team to Tokyo today,” USAB tweeted.

“We hope that Zach will be able to join the team in Tokyo later this week.”

LaVine follows Bradley Beal and Jerami Grant into health and safety protocol, with the Washington Wizards star ruled out of the Tokyo Games.

USA already lost Kevin Love who withdrew from the Olympics over the weekend as he continues to return from injury.

Love and Beal were replaced in the 12-man roster by JaVale McGee and Keldon Johnson, although only eight players will travel on Monday.

USA’s opening Olympics game is against France on Sunday, but they are still waiting on trio Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday and Devin Booker who are competing in the NBA Finals.

Game 6 of the NBA Finals takes place on Tuesday and if Game 7 is required, on Thursday, the trio may not arrive in time for Sunday’s game.

USA, who are gold medal favourites, suffered consecutive exhibition game defeats to Australia and Nigeria before rounding out their preparations with wins over Argentina and Spain.
