Value Over Replacement Player

Made popular by Keith Woolner, “value over replacement player” is a statistical tool that shows how much a hitter contributes offensively. This tool also shows how much a pitcher contributes to the team effort, as compared to a fabricated “replacement player”. The replacement player performs at the level of an average fielder in a given position and a below average hitter.
