Magic Number

In Major League Baseball, a “Magic Number” refers to the number of games a certain team must win to secure a place in the playoffs. In a regular season of 162 games, the calculation for the magic number is: M is calculates as M = 163 –W1 –L2, where W1 is the leading team’s present win total while L2 is the opponent’s loss total.
