Called Up is a baseball slang that denotes an advancement or promotion to a professional major league team. A member of a semi-professional minor league is “called up” provided he has surpassed certain skill levels. Major League Baseball teams have a roster of minor leagues to affiliate with, and this allows them to have a sort of pool or training ground to choose from.
