Backdoor Breaking Ball

A backdoor breaking ball is a type of an off-speed breaking pitch that follows a lateral path towards the catcher. It’s thrown to appear as if it’s heading outside the strike zone or headed “back door”, crossing over the plate’s corner. A favorite move among pitchers, the hitter is made to believe it is headed out of the zone during the final strike so that he or she gives up on it. It can be a cut fastball, a curveball, or a slider.
