Fast break – a strategic act from the offensive team that happens when it attempts to advance the ball and score a basket as quickly as possible right after a rebound, a blocked shot or a teal. It often involves one or more players who have an advantage in numbers in a certain area upon moving the ball towards their own basket. It can also happen if the defensive team is slow in transition, which allows a player from the offensive team to cut behind and go for an easy layup.
