Norfolk Tides is a minor league team that plays in the Triple-A International League in affiliation with the Baltimore Orioles of MLB.

Norfolk was formerly called the Tidewater Tides back in 1961 when it was founded in the South Atlantic League. Later in 1969, the team moved to Triple-A status with an affiliation with the New York Mets.

The two sides then ended their affiliation post the 2006 season and the Tides switched with the Baltimore Orioles.

The Tides’ mascot is called Riptide which was created by Spectrum Puppets of Virginia Beach in 1993 and unveiled in front of 7000 Hampton Roads Admirals’ fans.

Norfolk currently leads the Southern Division of the International League with 54 wins.

Major Achievements

The Tides have been 5 time Governors’ Cup, International League Champions.
