The Lehigh Valley IronPigs is a minor league baseball team and the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. It plays in the Northern Division of the International League.

Before moving to its present home Allentown, the team was called the Ottawa Lynx which was founded in 2007 in Ottawa, Ontario, while the new name is picked up from ‘pig iron’, which is used to manufacture steel, and as Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania is famous for steel production..

In their inaugural season of 2008, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs suffered 11 consecutive defeats but finally ended it by beating the Richmond Braves to win their first home game and also their first win ever as the IronPigs.

IronPigs’ mascot is now called Ferrous, also derived from iron. The original name was given as PorkChop but was changed due to racist claims from the local Puerto Rican public.
