John David Baker is a professional baseball player from the United States of America who plays as a catcher. Baker graduated from the De La Salle High School in 1999 and then went on to attend the University of California. In his junior year, Baker led the Pac-10 conference with his .383 batting average and was named to the All Pac-10 team.

In 2002, after his junior year, Baker decided to declare for the 2002 MLB Amateur Draft and was picked by the Oakland Athletics in the 4th round.

Baker had a slow rise through the minor leagues and only made his debut in 2008, a season when he played 52 games batting at .299 with 44 hits in 183 at-bats. Mostly a backup catcher, Baker has been more prominent in the 2009 season and has played 52 games till date and batted at an average of .240.
