He then signed with the New York Yankees as a free agent, and began 2008 with the Class A Tampa Yankees. He was then promoted to the AA Trenton Thunder and then to the AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Despite going a combined 8-6 on those farm teams, Alfredo had a 2.62 ERA and was called up to the Yankees on August 28, 2008.
On August 31, he made his major league debut, becameing the 106th major-league player to have been born in México, pitching two scoreless innings in relief.
After pitching effectively through his first few relief appearances, Aceves was moved to the rotation in replacement of Darrell Rasner.
In his first career start, on September 9, 2008, he pitched seven innings of one-run ball with two strikeouts against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and recorded the win.
