Grant Robert Balfour was born on December 30, 1977 in Sydney, Australia. He is a middle reliever for the Tampa Bay Rays.

Minor LeaguesGrant was signed by the Minnesota Twins as an amateur free agent in 1997. He went through their minor league system, before making his major league debut in 2001.
Major LeaguesGrant was called up and made his major league debut for the Minnesota Twins on July 22, 2001.
Grant missed all of 2005 recovering from surgery, was granted free agency after the season, and spent 2006 in the minors for the Cincinatti Reds. He was waived and picked up by the Milwaukee Brewers, and spent 2007 in their system.
On the same day that he was designated for assignment by the Brewers, July 27, 2007, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays for Seth McClung. He finished the season in the Rays bullpen and was resigned to a 1 year deal.
Grant didn’t make the team out of spring training, 2008, and was sent to Durham on April 3, 2008. He was recalled on May 29th, 2008.
