Minor LeaguesMike was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 7th round of the 1997 amateur draft, and signed on June 6, 1997.
Major leaguesMike made his major league debut on April 23, 2000, for the Texas Rangers. In February, 2003, he was traded to the New York Yankees for Jose Garcia.
In March, 2003, the Yankees traded him to the Astros for Jose Garcia. In 2005 he saw regular playing time, replacing the injured Jeff Bagwell.
On December 14th, 2007 he signed a 2-year deal with the Minnesota Twins. In August, 2008, he lost his starting third base position to Brendan Harris, due to a low batting average (non-existant against left-handed pitchers).
