Curtis Granderson was born on March 16, 1981, in Blue Island, Illinois. He plays center field for the Detroit Tigers.
Curtis is 6’ 1”, weighs 185 pounds, bats left and throws right.
High SchoolCurtis grew up in Lynwood, Illinois, a south suburb of Chicago. He attended Thornton Fractional South High School in Lansing, Illinois. As a senior in 1999, he hit .427 and was selected SICA Central All-Conference. He also earned All-Area recognition from the Illinois Times’’ and the ‘‘Daily Southtown.
CollegeCurtis attended the University of Illinois-Chicago, where he graduated with degrees in business administration and advertising.
He earned a host of accolades for his baseball skill.
Minor LeaguesCurtis was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the third round of the 2002 draft. He started his minor league career with the Oneonta Tigers in 2003, where he hit .344 in 52 games.
He played 2004 with the Erie Seawolves, and was a late season call-up to the Tigers. He made his major league debut on September 13, 2004 against the Minnesota Twins.
Curtis started the 2005 season with the Toledo Mud Hens. In September he was again called to the majors, and has been there ever since, becoming the starting center fielder beginning in 2006.
On February 4, 2008 the Tigers signed Granderson to a five-year, $30.25 million deal with a club option for 2013.
