John was traded, along with pitchers Nick Masset and Jacob Rasner, to the White Sox for pitcher Brandon McCarthy and outfielder David Paisano on December 23, 2006.

John became the fifth starter for the White Sox in the 2007 season - going 6-13 with an ERA of 5.50. So far through the 2008 season he has a winning record.
