Manny Ramirez, who makes more money in a month than most of us earn in a year, is not happy in Boston and wants to be traded.
As far as I’m concerned, the sooner the Red Sox get rid of him, the better. I have long been tired of “Manny being Manny.”
Of course that’s a double standard. If Manny hadn’t been as good a player as he is - the Red Sox would have got gotten rid of him a long time ago. But because he could hit so well, they enabled him, as most leagues enable their problem children who can play well.
I admit my anger with Manny might be fueled a little bit by the current economic situation. People are in danger of losing their homes to foreclosure, many are losing their jobs, and yet here comes Manny Ramirez, who makes huge amounts of money for doing nothing more than playing a game, and he’s disrespecting his organization. And while he was careful not to say anything critical about the fans, he is most definitely disrespecting them.
It will be interesting to see where this leads.
If only they can trade Manny for some decent pitching, all may yet work out well for the Red Sox.
