One of America’s best loved sports is baseball. It therefore comes as no surprise that many of the top baseball players are earning a few million dollars every year for playing the game that they love.alex rodriguez

Being the best is not easy but it is often the key to getting a bigger paycheck. So without further ado, here are the top 10 highest paid baseball players for 2010:

10 – Carlos Zambrano [$18,875,000] Carlos Zambrano of the Chicago Cubs is one of the top paid Cubs in the Major Leagues. Unfortunately, Zambrano has not been performing all too well for the past few seasons.

9 – Ryan Howard, Carlos Lee and Alfonso Soriano [$19,000,000] Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies, Carlos Lee of the Houston Astros, and Alfonso Soriano of the Chicago Cubs tie at ninth place for the highest pay in the entire Major Leagues. Howard is known for constantly rising to the top, while Soriano is known for his gradual decline in performance. Lee, on the other hand, has also been having a hard time as of late.

6 – Miguel Cabrera [$20,000,000] Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers is known for his great batting average and slugging percentage, which ranks 10th among the current active players of the season.

5 – Johan Santana [$20,144,707] Johan Santana of the New York Mets is ranked as the second highest paid pitcher in the Major Leagues. Although troubled by injury in 2009, Santana has recovered well and has been performing well as of late.

4– Mark Teixeira [$20,625,000] Mark Teixeira of the New York Yankees is one of the four highest paid Yankees on the list. Although his debut in the team was fantastic, he is currently suffering from a bit of a performance slump.

3 – Derek Jeter [$22,600,000] Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees is the second of the highest paid Yankees, and is known for being the team’s top player.

2 – CC Sabathia [$24,285,714] CC Sabathia of the New York Yankees is the highest paid pitcher in the Major Leagues, as well as in the history of the sport.

1 – Alex Rodriguez [$33,000,000] Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees is the highest paid player in all of the Major Leagues, and has been known to be one of the integral players who are responsible for the much coveted World Series title that the Yankees have been yearning to achieve for around nine years.

Not sure. Texas has an incredible luenip but their pitching scares nobody. However, trying to steal (or hit and run) with Pujols at bat is probably the dumbest thing I have ever seen in a baseball game. Then again, that's not to excuse the Yankees from doing anything dumb they are certainly guilty of that. This WS has been somewhat enjoyable however the one blow out game sort of took something out of it. It's going to be tough now for St. Louis, they lost a game that Carpenter started .. I think they needed to win that game to have a shot. Still, I will be rooting for a game 7 because those are always fun. St. Louis having home field is a separate issue. I'm starting to really come around to the idea that home field should be tied to the overall League records on interleague play. I think this creates interest in the interleague schedule, and could make for some interesting series as interleague play concludes. Say, for instance, the records are close heading into that final weekend of play . an otherwise boring matchup of KC vs. San Diego might determine home field advantage in the WS! I think fans in that city where the game will be played will be juiced and the national media will pay close attention. The nice thing is . you create a different situation every season. Could be fun!

There has to be something written in a contract of the Yankees that a player must deliver and play well or not receive any salary for a game where they are labeled a nothing..

The Yankee players are over paid not all of them but quite a few are. I do not nor will I ever understand why A Rod and Derek Jeter are paid so much. The Yankees all should be ashamed of their preformance against the Ranger. The Rangers players were laughing at our Yankee team and I do not blame them. This last playoff was about the worst game playing of the Yankees. They were playing like some high school teams. Maybe the players need to focus more on the game and less on the various woman they rome the streets with.

yanks should be ashamed they don't win every year with the money they have. They really do over pay players. CC is not the best pitcher in baseball but he gets payed like he is. I think the players don't do as well in New York because of how much they get payed.
