The San Diego Padres may finally be getting some good news. Jake Peavy’s rehab from an elbow strain continued to move along nicely, as Peavy threw multiple sessions on flat ground in the past few days.

Peavy threw forty pitches on Tuesday and lengthened his rehab session on Wednesday. Padres’ manager Bud Black said Peavy may be progressing to throw off of a mound by Sunday. Provided last year’s Cy Young winner shows no bad side effects from this week’s throwing sessions, he is scheduled to throw a bullpen session off the mound on Sunday. A few bullpen sessions followed by a possible simulated game would most likely be enough to complete Peavy’s rehab. A minor league assignment may not be necessary, as long as Peavy continues to show signs of improvement.

The news can’t come soon enough for the Padres, who also lost starting pitcher Chris Young when he was struck by a line drive against the Cardinals last week.
