Wednesday, September 3, 2008 – Both the Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox lost on Tuesday night, so they remain tied atop the American League Central Division, and 9 games ahead of their closest competitor, the Cleveland Indians.
The Twins faced off against the Toronto Blue Jays, who aren’t having such a bad year themselves, with a 71-66 record, which still puts them 13-and-a-half games behind the American League East-leading Tampa Bay Rays.
For the Twins, Glen Perkins started the game and went 5 innigs, then Boof Bonser took over for him and also took the loss.
David Purcey started for the Toronto Blue Jays, but went only 3 innings, and reliever Jesse Carlson got the win, with closer B. J. Ryan picking up his 26th save.
For the White Sox, John Danks took the loss and is now 10-8. Fausto Carmona got the win for the Cleveland Indians and is now 8-5.
Both the Twins and the White Sox have had chances to pull away from their competitor, but both are slumping. The Twins are 3-7 in their last 10 games, the White Sox, 4-6.
