Nuria Llagostera Vives was born on May 16, 1980 and she hails from Mallorca, Spain. She was born to Jordi, her father who is an owner of a restaurant, and Maria, her mother who is now retired. Nuria acquired her skills and talent for tennis from her parents who enjoy playing recreational tennis. Nuria is the first in her family to achieve a professional status in the sport.
Nuria turned professional in the year 1996. She is a right-handed player and her double-handed backhand is her strongest shot. Nuria’s career high ranking for the singles circuit was in the year 2005 when she reached as high as number 35. For the doubles circuit, Nuria achieved her career high ranking just recently in this year at number 35. Nuria had gone a long way from her 1997 season-ending rank at number 949.
In 1998, she jumped far in the rankings to land at number 693 which was significantly better than the previous year. In 1999, Nuria did another jump in the rankings, this time over 400 places to land in number 237. From the year 2000 to the year 2005, Nuria significantly improved to the point of reaching the top 50 rankings in the singles circuit. However, in the year 2006, Nuria was knocked off the top 50 and fell over 150 places to number 273. This was very devastating for Nuria and tried her best to improve her game once again. She ended her 2007 season at number 145.
Nuria has a recorded 2 career singles title and 5 career doubles title in the WTA. In the ITF, Nuria has a recorded 10 career singles title and 5 career doubles title. In 2008, Nuria was included in the Roland Garros and Wimbledon Grand Slam events.
