Associazione Calcio Chievo Verona, commonly known as Chievo Verona, is an Italian football club based in the city of Verona. They are actually a suburban club of Verona and currently feature in the Italian Serie A.

Chievo Verona were founded in 1929 by a small number of football followers from the small borough of Chievo. The club made their formal league debut on November 8,1931.

Chievo were disbanded in 1936 because of inancial problems and were reassembled in 1948 and played in the Carlantonio Bottagisio between 1957 and 1986.

In 1964 Luigi Campedelli, a businessman and owner of the Paluani company, became the chairman of Chievo and invested in the club so much so that the club climbed to the Italian Serie D and under the name “Paluani Chievo” reached the Serie C2.

In 1990 the club were rechristened as AC Chievo Verona and after good and constructive investment, Chievo gained promotion to the Italian Serie A for the 2001-2002 season. In their debut season, they finished an astonishing fifth and qualified for the UEFA Cup and for more than half of the season were actually in contention for the scudetto.

In the 2002-2003 season Chievo managed to finish seventh in the league and in the 2003-2004 season finished ninth. Chievo managed to impress consistently in the Serie An and thanks to the Calciopoli scandal of 2006 found themselves playing in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League in the 2006-2007 season and played in the UEFA Cup that season.

Chievo were relegated to the Italian Serie B at the end of the 2006-2007 season but won the second division title and managed to break gain promotion to the Serie A for the 2008-2009 season.

Chievo Verona play their home matches at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentigodi, which has a capacity of 42,160. The stadium is shared with Chievo’s city rivals Hellas Verona.

Chievo Verona bear the nicknames Ceo (Chievo) and Mussi Volanti (Flying Donkeys).
