Newcastle United FC

Newcastle United Football Club is an English football club based in the city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and currently feature in the English Premier League. They are one of the more successful clubs in England and are also said to have the most passionate supporters. Newcastle featured in the movies Goal I: The Dream Begins and Goal II: Living the Dream.

Newcastle United have won the First Division Championship on four occasions and the FA Cup for a considerably good six times. They won the Inter Cities Fairs Cup in 1969.

In December 1892 Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End were merged to form Newcastle United. The club won the league championship in 1905, 1907 and 1909. Next year they won the FA Cup and again in 1924.

Newcastle won the league title in 1927 and during the 1950s win the FA Cup thrice. However after two decades of relative success, the club were suffering in the Second Division by the 1980s but recovered soon to become a strong force in the English Premier League.

So much so that Newcastle United even finished second on a number of occasions but failed to sustain that consistency and high level.

Newcastle United play their home matches at St. James’ Park, which can hold a crowd of 52,387. They are nicknamed as the Magpies and the Toon and their supporters are known as the Toon Army.

Newcastle United foster massive rivalry with Sunderland and have been contesting the Tyne-Wear derby with them since 1898.
