In the English domestic cricket structure the Cheshire County Cricket Club (CCC) is one of the county clubs that makes up the Minor counties. It represents the historic county of Cheshire and this board participates in the MCCA Knockout Trophy and the Minor Counties Championship.
The Minor counties like Cheshire play by a level lesser than that played in the first-class game and participate in three-day matches. Currently Cheshire is part of the Western Division of the Minor Counties Championship.
The Cheshire CCC is based at Cheadle and it plays matches at different places in the county like the Boughton Hall in Chester as well as at Alderley Edge, Grappenhall, New Brighton and Nantwich.
It is conceived that cricket did not reach Cheshire before the 18th century. 1781 is the year which is earliest referred for cricket being played here. As per Wisden even in 1819 there was a county organization in this place. The Cheshire CCC was established on 29th September 1908 and it started participation in the Minor Counties Championship for the first time in the year 1909.
In 2001 the Cheshire CCC shared the Minor Counties Championship with Lincolnshire and in 2005 with Suffolk. The prominent cricketers from Cheshire who also had an impact on the first class game are Mudassar Nazar, Winston Benjamin and Bob Barber.
Some of the Cheshire County Cricket Club members are P J Riding, K G Rothwell, J P Roper, Bruce Jones, Norman Halsall and T Everatt.
Major achievements
The Cheshire County Cricket Club has won the Minor Counties Championship four times in 1967, 1985, 1988 and 2007 and has shared it twice in 2001 and 2005.
It has won the MCCA Knockout Trophy three times in 1983, 1987 and 1996.
