The Greece national basketball team is a professional men's basketball team that represents Greece in international competitions. The team comes under the FIBA Europe zone. The Hellenic Basketball Federation is in charge of the Greece national basketball team.

Although the team was established in 1932 it made its first international debut in the 1949 Eurobasket held in Egypt. In their tournament itself they were successful in wining the Bronze medal. They were seeded at the second position in the 1951 Eurobasket. Greece has had a quiet successful season after then.

After a period of successful seasons till the 1960s the team's performance started declinig through the 1960s and the 1970s. The team saw a complete makeover in the 1980s. The existing squad was changed and few new experienced players were brought in the team. In the year 1986 Greece managed to qualify at the FIBA World championships for the very first time in history. They were ranked 10th in the qualifying round.

Greece hosted the 1987 Eurobasket and was a part of the 12 teams that made it to the tournament. Due to home support and a strong team, Greece was able to be victorious and win the tournament where they defeated the USSR in the final game. In the following year Greece again made it to the finals but went down to win the silver medal when they were defeated by the Yugoslavian team.

The Greece team underwent a declination in their performance from the 1999 to 2001 and also did not qualify for the Sydney Olympic in 2002. In the 2004 Olympic tournament which was hosted in Greece, the team was placed 2nd in their group and overall 5th in the tournament.

The 2005 Eurobasket was a lucky season for the team. They managed to defeat every team to make it to the finals to play against the strong German side. Eventually they also defeated the German side by 78-62 win loss record and achieved the championship title for the second time in team history.

Many famous players like Dimitris Diamantidis, Theodoros Papaloukas, Michalis Romanidis and Nick Galis have all been a part of the team at one point or the other.

The 2007 Eurobasket tournament saw Greece performing well in the initial group stages. They made it to the semi finals but eventually went down Lithuania and were seeded at the 4th place in the tournament. Greece will be playing for the qualifying round for the Beijing Olympic Games hosted in Greece itself. Other 12 teams would be taking part and only 3 will make it to the final games.
