The Rangers is one of the original 6 NHL teams (with Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, and Chicago Blackhawks) and the first team from New York City. In the 80s they were joined by the New York Islanders that are based on Long Island.
