The Washington Mystics were one of the first expansion teams in the WNBA. They were founded in 1997, and played their inaugeral season in 1998.
The Mystics, originally owned by Washington Sports and Entertainment, have been owned by Lincoln Holdings since 2005. Sheila C. Johnson, co-founder of BET and ex-wife of Charlotte Sting owner Robert L. Johnson is the managing partner.
The Mystics play at the Verizon Center.
The Mystics have gone through a considerable number of coaches: Jim Lewis (1998), Cathy Parson (1998), Nancy Darsch (1999-2000), Darrell Walker (2000), Tom Maher (2001), Marianne Stanley (2002-2003), Michael Adams (2004) Richie Adubato (2005-2007), and finally Wayne Tree Rollins.
Current players include Alana Beard, Monique Currie and Crystal Langhorne.
