AS Roma

Associazione Sportiva Roma, commonly known as AS Roma, are an Italian football club based in the city of Rome. They have featured in all but one seasons in top tier Italian club football and have won the scudetto three times.

AS Roma were founded on July 22,1927 by Italo Foschi after three older Roman clubs were merged together. The club won their first Italian league championship in 1941-1942, thanks to 18 goals scored by local player Amedeo Amadei.

But darker days soon arrived as Roma failed to go anywhere near the top in the next few seasons and were even relegated to the Italian Serie B at the end of the 1950-1951 season.

However Roma immediately bounced back into the Italian Serie A and then had mixed fortunes. They won the scudetto for the second time in their history in the 1982-1983 season and reached the final of the European Cup in 1984.

Roma again won the scudetto in 2000-2001 under coach Fabio Capello but have not managed to challenge stiffly for the Serie A title since although they have consistently tried and have played entertaining football.

AS Roma play their home matches at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome which can hold a maximum of 72,698 people. Roma bear the nicknames i Giallorossi (the Yellow-reds), La Magica (The Magic) and i Lupi (the Wolves). They foster a huge and volatile rivalry with Rome side Lazio.

The current captain of the team is Francesco Totti who has been wearing the captain's band since 1998. He is the club's all-time top goal-scorer and has played more games for the club than any other player.

- 8 Coppa Italia, most recently 2006/07
- 1 Champions League final
- 1 UEFA Cup final
