FC Gorondins de Bordeaux, popularly known simply as Bordeaux is a French football club based in the city of Bordeaux. They currently feature in the French Ligue 1 and finished second in the French top flight in the 2007-2008 season.

Girondins de Bordeaux was created as a sports club (and not a football specific club) on February 1,1882 (although some sources suggest that the club was formed on October 1,1881). They became a football-emphasizing club in 1919 and played their first Premier League match in 1919.

In 1937 the club turned professional and four years later in 1941 won the Coupe de France. Then in the 1949-1950 season, Bordeaux won the French Ligue 1 championships. Bordeaux then slipped into a steady decline but resurfaced in the 1980s. In this period they won 3 Ligue titles, 2 Coupes de France and played in Europe too for a number of years.

Bordeaux reached the final of the UEFA Cup in 1996 after getting past the likes of Real Betis, AC Milan and Slavia Prague. But they lost the final 5-1 on aggregate to German powerhouse Bayern Munich.

Bordeaux play their home matches at the Stade Chaban Delmas that can accommodate 34,327 spectators.
