Alkmaar Zaanstreek is a Dutch football club from Alkmaar. The club is the result of a merger between Alkmaar 54 and FC Zaanstreek in 1967.
AZ became Dutch champions in 1981 and made it to the UEFA Cup final that same year. After that the performance suffered and the club spent 1988-1998 in the second division. In 2004/05 the club raised to pride again and advanced to the UEFA Cup semi-finals and finished in a third position in the Erdivisie. The new DBS Stadium seats 17,023, but the goal is to expand to 40,000 by 2010.
