Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns are a professional basketball team playing under the National Basketball Association (NBA) based in Phoenix, Arizona. The team plays in the Pacific Division of the Western conference. The team was founded in the year 1968. The team is currently owned by Robert Sarver. Currently the Suns are in search of a new head coach. Purple, Orange, White, and Gray are the official colors of the Suns.

The 1968-69 season was the debut season for the Suns. In 1976 they finished the season with 42 wins and 40 losses, the first wining season for the Suns in franchise history. They also beat the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors in the playoffs and went on to play the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals. They gave the Celtics a hard time to play but eventually the Celtics were victorious.

In 1992 all-star power forward Charles Barkley was traded from the Philadelphia 76ers for Jeff Hornacek, Andrew Lang, and Tim Perry. Barkely won his first MVP with the Phoenix Suns that season. With the likes of Barkely, Majerle Johnson and Ainge, the team mangaed to win 62 games and qualified for the playoffs. the first round of the playoffs, they defeated the eighth-seeded Lakers, coming back from an 0-2 deficit in the five game series. The Suns went on to eliminate the Spurs and Sonics, advancing to the Finals for the second time in franchise history. They eventually lost to the Bulls, which led by super-star Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Despite of loosing out of the NBA finals the Suns managed to grab the Western conference title.

The 2002-03 campaign saw the emergence of Amare Stoudemire a graduate from Cypress Creek High School (Orlando, Florida). He became the first ever high school player to win the NBA Rookie of the Year in the 2002-03 season, during which the Suns posted a record of 44-38 and returned to the playoffs. The Suns were eliminated in the first round once again by the San Antonio Spurs, but only after a six game series with the eventual NBA champions.
At present the US Airways Center is the place where the Suns play all their home games. The arena is located in Phoenix, Arizona. The arena has a maximum capacity of 18,422. Charles Barkely, Connie Hawkins and Gail Goodrich are amongst the few members of the team who have made it to the Hall of Famers.

In the 2007-08 season the Suns made it to the NBA playoffs but were eliminated in the first round itself. They were seeded at the 2nd position in the Pacific division by wining 55 games at end of the regular season. The 2008-09 Phoenix Suns season will be the 41st season of the franchise in the NBA. The 2008 NBA Draft will take place in New York City on June 26 followed by the free agency period.
