Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars, a NFL team that plays in the American Football Conference (AFC), was founded in 1995. The team, which is in the AFC South, plays its home games in Jacksonville, Florida. Wayne Weaver, who won the bid for the franchise in 1993, negotiated one of the best deals with a host city, getting rights to parking and concession sales in the stadium that is owned by the city.

The Jags have won two AFC Central Championships (1998, 1999). They have never won a conference title nor have they been to a Super Bowl. They have played in the same stadium since 1995. Originally named Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in 1995, it was renamed ALLTEL Stadium from 1997-2006. Since 2007, it has been known once again as Jacksonville Municipal Stadium.

In 2007, the Jags were in the post-season as a Wild Card team. They won their first game, beating the Steelers 31-29 and then lost in the Divisional Playoffs to the New England Patriots 31-20. Jacksonville has made it to the playoffs six times. The team has played in the Conference Championships twice, losing to the Pats 20-6 in 1996 and to the Tennessee Titans 33-14 in 1999.

The Jaguars have no players in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. James Harris is the team's general manager and vice president of player personnel. Harris is a former NFL quarterback, having played for the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams and San Diego Chargers.

Head coach Jack Del Rio, who has been guiding the team since 2003, is a former NFL linebacker. From 1985-1996, Del Rio played with five different clubs. From 1997 to the present, he has been a coach with four different teams, starting with the New Orleans Saints as a strength and conditioning coach in 1997. He was not a head coach until the Jags hired him to replace fired head coach Tom Coughlin (1995-2002).

The Jacksonville Jaguar mascot is a person in a jaguar suit named Jaxson de Ville. The team has a cumulative regular season record of 113-95-0 and a playoff mark of 5-6-0.
