Arizona Diamondbacks fan club

The Arizona Diamondbacks are a professional baseball team located in Phoenix, Arizona. They play in the West Division of the National League.

Stadium
Since their inception, the Diamondbacks have played at Chase Field (formerly called Bank One Ballpark).

Nickname
Although the team is based out of Phoenix, owner Jerry Colangelo preferred that the name be the Arizona Diamondbacks, in order to embrace the entire state. The Diamondbacks name came as a result of a contest. The Diamondback is one of the most well-known snakes in the region.

History
In the fall of 1993, Jerry Colangelo, majority owner of the Phoenix Suns, announced he was assembling an ownership group, "Arizona Baseball, Inc.," to apply for a Major League Baseball expansion team. This was after a great deal of lobbying by the Maricopa County Sports Authority, a local group formed to preserve Cactus League spring training in Arizona and eventually secure a Major League franchise for the state.

Colangelo's bid was successful, and Arizona was awarded a team, who started play in 1998.

Record By Decade

1998-1999
Buck Showalter became the coach of the Diamondbacks, and the team had winning records in his first two years.

2000-2008
Showalter final year was in 2000. Bon Brenley took over in 2001, and that's the year the D-Backs won their World Series. They had a better record by six games in 2002 (98-64), but were only able to come away with the Division title.

After a sub-.500 year in 2004, Brenley was replaced by Bob Melvin, who has coached the team ever since.
