Delhi Giants

The Indian Cricket League’s team, Delhi Giants was earlier named as Delhi Jets till the 2008 Edelweiss 20’s Challenge. New Delhi, the capital city of India, is represented by this team.

On 26th October 2008, the Delhi Giants played a match against Lahore Badshahs at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurgaon. Lahore Badshah’s batted first and scored 147 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. Delhi Giants put up 148 runs for 4 wickets in 18.3 overs and won the match. Ali Murtaza was chosen as the Man of the Match as he took 4 wickets for 7 runs in 4 overs.

On 24th October 2008, the Delhi Giants and Chennai Superstars contested at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurgaon. The Chennai Superstars scored 166 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, the Delhi Giants scored 161 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. Thus, the Chennai Superstars defeated Delhi Giants by 5 runs. The Man of the Match was Hemang Badani as he scored 51 runs in 45 deliveries.

On 20th October 2008 at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad there was a match between Delhi Giants and Dhaka Warriors. The Dhaka Warriors scored 174 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, the Delhi Giants could score 112 all out in 18.4 overs. Dhaka Warriors defeated Delhi Giants by 62 runs. The Man of the Match was Nazimuddin who scored 54 runs in 29 deliveries.

The skipper of the Delhi Giants is Marvan Atapattu who was earlier the captain of the Sri Lanka national team. The other members of this team are Monish Mishra, Paul Nixon, Raghav Sachdev, Shalabh Srivastava, Abhishek Sharma, Abid Nabi, Dishant Yagnik, Dhruv Mahajan, Abhinav Bali, Ali Murtaza, Taduri Sudhindra, Jai Prakash Yadav, Abbas Ali, Shane Bond, Dale Benkenstein and Avishka Gunawardene.

Major achievements

Delhi Giants attained 4th rank in the 2008 Indian Cricket League 20-20 Indian Championship.

The team acquired 5th rank in the 2008 Indian Cricket League Edelweiss 20s Challenge.

The team won the 2008 Indian Cricket League 50s.

The team was ranked 3rd in the 2007 Indian Cricket League 20-20 Indian Championship.
