Borussia Monchengladbach is a German football club based in Monchengladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia. They currently feature in the German Bundesliga and one of the most popular and successful clubs in Germany. They are the fourth largest club in German football.

Borussia Monchengladbach were formally established on August 1,1900 and played in the Rheinisch-Westfalischen Spielverband initially. They steadily progressed and in 1912 featured in the final of the Westdeutche Verbandsliga. In 1919 they joined Turnverein Germania 1889 to form Verein fur Turn- und Rasensport 1889 Munchen-Gladbach.

Borussia played in the Oberliga West in 1952. In 1960 they won their first major honours when they defeated Karlsruher SC in the final of the German Cup and the next year were rechristened as Borussia VFL Monchengladbach. They were not allowed to participate in the inaugural season of the German Bundesliga and featured in the Regionalliga West.

Borussia marched onto the German Bundesliga in the 1965-1966 season and became serious challengers to the league title throughout the 1970s. They won the league in 1970 and 1971, becomin the first German club to successfully defend their title.

Borussia Monchengladbach won their second German Cup in 1973 and won the league from 1975 to 1977. They reached the final of the European Cup in 1977 but lost to Liverpool. They won the UEFA Cup in 1975 and 1979 and lost in the final of the competition in 1973 and 1980.

Borussian Monchengladbach didn't manage to continue their success in the 1980s and had to sell several of their players. In the 1990s they were struggling in the bottom half of the German Bundesliga table but won the German Cup in 1995. In 1999 they suffered relegation to the second division. They bounced back soon but at the end of the 2006-2007 season they were relegated aain but gained promotion to the top flight at the end of the 2007-2008 season.

Borussia Monchengladback play their home matches at Borussia-Park that has a capacity of 54,067. They bear the nickname the Foals.
