Penalty shootouts

In soccer, penalty shootouts are shots that are made from the player from as far as the penalty mark. The penalty shot is made usually following a penalty or a draw, and can be a determinant in many soccer games for some extremely important factors.

Penalty shootouts are only used in knockout games of soccer, rather than games that are following an established league system. They do not follow the same procedures as the regular penalty kick, but they are made from the center circle of the field.

Usually both teams participate in a penalty shootout and the team that makes the first kick is decided by one factor, normally a coin toss. The winner of the coin toss gets to decide whether they want to be first or second in the penalty shootout. Each kicker is only allowed to kick the ball one time during a shootout and they take turn attempting to make a goal until each has gone five times.
