First team

The "first team" of a football club is the seniormost team of the club. It is the highest level in the team. It is the first team of a football club that features in the top league. The level immediately below the first team is called the "reserves" or the second string. At times players from the first team play in th reserves for a number of reasons including to to increase their fitness level. Often young, talented and promising players from the reserve teams are promoted to the first team.
