Xherdan Shaqiri> is a Kosovan born Swiss football player. At present, he plays as a midfielder for FC Basel in the Swiss Super League and is a member of the Swiss national team. Standing five feet seven inches, Shaqiri played in under 15 Nike Cup in 2007.
As a fresher, this 18 year old played for SV Augst (1991-2001) and Basel (2001-2009) youth team. During this period, he was named as the best player of the tournament and irrespective of many other clubs trying hard to sign him, he stayed with Basel.
Later on, after two years, he signed his first professional contract with the team, FC Basel on 2nd January 2009. The contract with the team is till January 2011, due to which Shaqiri will stay at St. Jakob-Park. His debut was as a substitute in the opening game of the 2009-10 of Basel at the AFG Arena against FC St. Gallen on 12th July 2009.
His first goal came on 9th November, 2009, when he got an opportunity to score his first goal for the team in a 4-1 win over Neuchâtel Xamax. In 2010, he got a surprise call for the Swiss national team at the FIFA World Cup held in South Africa.
