Ruben commenced his professional football career with Rosario Central in 2004 and played for them for two years. He joined River Plate in 2007 and signed for Villarreal in 2008.
Ruben has since been part of the Villarreal team, and rejoined the first team in 2010 after spending the 2009-10 campaign at Villarreal B.
