Ryan William Nelson is a New Zealand international football player who currently features for the English Premier League club Blackburn Rovers. He is a defender and is also the skipper of Blackburn.
Ryan Nelson went to the USA to play for Greensboro College in North Carolina in 1997 while attending St. Thomas of Canterbury College. He then moved to play for Stanford University and made his professional debut for MLS side DC United in 2001.
Nelson played for DC United for four seasons, scoring 7 goals in 67 league appearances and was signed by Blackburn Rovers in January 2005 on a free transfer. He was given a three year contract in the summer of 2005 and became a regular at Ewood Park, impressing the club officials and the fans alike. He has made over 100 appearances for Blackburn in all competitions so far.
Ryan Nelson made his international debut for New Zealand in 2002 and has played 29 matches for his nation so far, scoring 5 goals.
