David Edward Edgar is a young is a Canadian football player who currently features for the English Premier League club Newcastle United. He plays as a centre back and is said to have a very promising future for Canada.
David Edgar’s father Eddie played as a goalkeeper for Newcastle and Hartlepool and with Pele at New York Cosmos. When Edgar was nine years of age, he impressed in a football tournament in England sponsored by Manchester United. He rejected a scholarship from Man United and decided to stay on in Canada.
David Edgar joined the Newcastle academy when he was just 14 and progressed there. He made his debut for the Newcastle first team in 2005 but has yet to feature regularly for the first team. He made his first team debut against Bolton Wanderers in December 2006.
David Edgar was named as Canadian Youth Player of the Year in 2007 for the 2006 season and in May 2007 signed a new contract with the Magpies that shall keep him at the club until 2009.
