A professional French football player of Malian decent, Oumar Sissoko plays as a goalkeeper. Despite being born in France, Sissoko chose to play for Mali just like his cousin, Mohamed Sissoko, who has also played for Mali after being born in France. For Oumar, the game became interesting at the FC Metz youth academy where he pushed hard to find a place in the first team.
As with most goalkeepers, the transition from the youth team to the senior line-up is hard due to the lack of playing time in the first team. However, Oumar did manage to get around 46 appearances in the first team, standing in during injuries to the first- and second-choice goalkeepers. He stint lasted from 2007 to 2012, during which time he also made his debut for the national team in 2008.
In the 2012 African Cup of Nations, Oumar had two appearances for the national team and also moved to AC Ajaccio to further his career. He will, likely, remain a second- or third-choice goalkeeper at the club considering the talent that lies ahead of him in the pecking order.
