Sergio Antonio Borges Junior, or Serginho Mineiro, is a midfielder with a defensive mindset, someone who has made his mark as one of the better players in Brazil. Since his youth days at Vila Nova Atletico Clube, Serginho was quickly noticed by the Atletico Mineiro senior squad. In 2005, after his graduation from the Vila Nova academy, Atletico quickly got his signature and, soon, found an incredible asset to their team.
Despite starting slow, Serginho quickly made up for lost time but that wouldn’t happen until a wonderful loan spell out to Clube de Regatas Brasil. Despite not playing a single league game during his loan spell, Serginho came back and made his place in the Atletico line-up.
Since 2006, barring that single loan spell, Serginho has grown into a first team squad member and a regular starter or substitute in the Atletico line-up. He has made over 40 appearances for the team and scored three times in that tenure.
Serginho was also a part of the 2007 Minas Gerais State League winning team.
