Gareth Barry is an England international football player who currently features for the English and European giants Manchester City. He plays as a defensive midfielder and is considered as one of the best in his position in England.
Barry made his debut for Aston Villa in 1997 and quickly grew to be one of the most important players for his team. He quickly endeared himself to the Villa fans with his passion and support for his club.
Barry settled into the first team very well and made 365 appearances in the Premier League for the Villans. He was voted Villa’s Player of the Season as well as Player’s Player of the Season in 2006-07.
Barry was involved in a bitter transfer chaos in the summer of 2008 when he publicly declared his desire to leave Aston Villa for Liverpool so that he could play in the Champions League. However, Villa rejected his request and Liverpool’s bid and Barry featured for Villa in the 2008-2009 season.
However, he joined Manchester City in 2009 and was instrumental in the Citizens’ FA Cup triumph in 2011 and the Premier League in 2011-12, featuring in over 100 league matches.
Barry made his international debut for England in 2000 and has gone onto played over 50 matches for his nation. He was a member of the England squad for Euro 2000 and 2010 World Cup finals.
