Luis Schmidt

Luis Eduardo Schmidt, popularly known as Edu, is a Brazilian footballer who currently features for the Spanish club Real Betis. He plays as a striker and was the best player for Betis in the 2007-2008 season.

Edu made his professional debut for the Brazilian giants Sau Paulo way back in 1997 but in the subsequent three seasons there he could only make three appearances for the club. In 2000 Edu moved to Spain and unfancies Celta De Vigo but became an instant hit in La Liga.

He played for the Galacian club until the end of the 2003-2004 season and made 117 matches in La Liga. He was signed on loan for two years by Real Betis in the summer of 2004 and is now a regular striker for the Andalucian giants. He partnered the now departed Ricardo Olivieira in his debut season for Betis and scored 11 times in 32 league appearances.

In the summer of 2006 Betis made his loan deal a permanent one. Edu's contract at Betis lasts until the summer of 2009 and he has a buy-out clause of 30 million euros.

Edu has made only one international appearance for his nation Brazil and that was way back in 2000.
