Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova insists the 2012-13 Spanish La Liga is not won yet despite his side moving 11 points clear of rivals Real Madrid following Sunday’s 4-0 thrashing of Levante.
Lionel Messi scored a double, to move closer to breaking Gerd Muller’s record of 85 goals in a calendar year, while Cesc Fabregas and Andres Iniesta also got on the scoresheet in the triumph.
Elsewhere, third-placed Real Madrid slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Real Betis leaving them 11 points behind their rivals after 13 games.
Second-placed Atletico Madrid, who aren’t rated a title contender despite their bright start to the campaign, remain just three points behind the Catalans after their outstanding 4-0 win over Sevilla and Vilanova insisted the La Liga crown was far from decided.
“We still have 75 points left to play for and Atletico Madrid are only three points behind us. We have a long way to go,” Vilanova told his club’s official website.
“La Liga is not over. I remind you that we have had this advantage before, yet then had to win our match at the Bernabeu (to be sure of success).”
