It’s a bumper Saturday around Europe with some huge games taking place with a lot on the line for the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea, Ajax Amsterdam and Werder Bremen.
Sports Pundit’s Game of the Weekend Sevilla v Barcelona Spanish La Liga, Saturday 9pm (CET)
Sevilla produced an upset earlier this season when they defeated Real Madrid 1-0 at home and they’ll be hoping to repeat that feat again when they entertain early pace-setters Barcelona on Saturday night. Barca have started the season with five wins from five games, with Lionel Messi hitting the back of the net six times already. Sevilla are also unbeaten so far, with their stringent defence the key to their success.
Arsenal v Chelsea English Premier League, Sunday 12.45pm (CET)
England’s top London giants have both shown signs of being championship material already this term, with the Gunners claiming an excellent 1-1 draw away to champions Manchester City last weekend. Eden Hazard has dazzled for the Blues who are top of the table at the moment with 13 points from their five games. The Gunners are also unbeaten, but have only claimed nine points from their five games, and this clash comes too soon for Jack Wilshere is closing in on a long-awaited return from injury.
Werder Bremen v Bayern Munich German Bundesliga, Saturday, 2.30pm (CET)
Whenever these two clubs clash in Germany it’s always a big occasion, however when Bayern are flying with a 100 per cent record after five games, Werder will be extra motivated to bring them down. The North-West club are in seventh with seven points so far, which is some way behind Jupp Heynckes’ men, who have had Mario Mandzukic and Thomas Muller in prolific form early.
Juventus v AS Roma Italian Serie A, Saturday 7.45pm (CET)
The Italian champions have started where they left off last season, with brilliant early form seeing them sit top of Serie A. Juve had won their first four games before their midweek goalless draw away to Fiorentina. Roma had begun the campaign brightly including a big 3-1 win at Inter, but their awful 3-2 home loss to Bologna, where they blew a two-goal lead with 20 minutes to go, has people questioning they qualities. This is an opportunity for both sides to make a statement.
Ajax Amsterdam v Twente Dutch Eredivisie, Saturday 7.45pm (CET)
Twente have blown the Eredivisie apart early this season. In fact, Steve McClaren’s side have claimed six victories from six games with the goals shared around by the likes of Leroy Fer and Dusan Tadic. So pitting them against the reigning champions at this stage of the campaign is ideal. Ajax’s start has been far from perfect after a bundle of goals early, although they are unbeaten with 12 points from six games but need to find consistency.
