With a record number of goals this weekend it wasn’t a good time for goalkeepers and defenders, but the past week of Premiership games has offered Fantasy coaches plenty.>
Star Players
Carlos Tevez – Manchester City – striker – 21m; 20 points The Argentinian remains one of Fantasy Football real stars after firing a hat-trick against West Bromwich. Days earlier Tevez scored in the draw at Birmingham City and his consistent number of goals makes him a must have. Yes, he’s expensive but he’s consistently good.
Louis Saha – Everton – striker – 18.8m; 22 points The Frenchman had a lean first-half of the season but he has really hit his straps of late and his haul of four goals against Blackpool underlined that form. Perhaps it isn’t a great idea to go out and spend big cash on Saha – despite his form - but it’s worth noting a tremendous performance.
Raul Meireles – Liverpool – midfielder – 17.3m; 18 points The Portuguese midfielder has found form under new Reds boss Kenny Dalglish and he scored the winner at Chelsea, playing in an advanced role. He was also influential in the midfield win over Stoke, with a goal then too and isn’t an overly expensive player. If he keeps up this form, he’ll be hard to ignore.
Disappointments
Fernando Torres – Chelsea – striker – 21.8m; 1 point It was a massive week for Torres after his switch from Liverpool to Chelsea. As one of Fantasy Football’s most expensive players with per cent of coaches owning him, the move may have been expected to bring more goals from the Spaniard but his debut hardly offered much optimism. He struggled before being replaced just past the hour mark as Chelsea lost 1-0 to Liverpool.
>
Sebastian Squillaci – [[Arsenal]]> – defender – 7.2m; -1 point It was a bad week for the Gunners but Squillaci receiving a red card against Everton didn’t help. His presence might’ve helped when they conceded four goals in the second-half against Newcastle too.
Ian Holloway – [[Blackpool]]> – manager – 4.2m; -4 points The Tangerines have lost their past five Premier League matches and it’s not looking good for Holloway. Blackpool’s last two defeats were against lowly West Ham and midtable Everton which doesn’t bode well.
Special mentions
Goalkeepers
Jose Reina – Liverpool – 10.6m; 14 points (Reina is helping the Reds keep clean sheets)
Heurelho Gomes – Tottenham – 10.3m; 10 points (consistent keeper, decent value)
Mark Schwarzer – Fulham – 7.6m; 6 points (back from the Asian Cup with good form)
Defenders
Robert Huth – Sunderland – 6m; 14 points (a couple of goals always helps, but he’s consistent)
[[Liverpool:Martin Kelly]] – Liverpool> – 6.8m; 12 points (the youngster is impressing)
Martin Skrtel – Liverpool – 7.1m; 12 points (the Reds have tightened up at the back and he’s been important)>
Midfielders
James McCarthy – [[Wigan]]> – 10m; 15 points (two goals but great points)
Clint Dempsey – Fulham – 14m; 12 points (consistent performer, Fulham’s best)
Joey Barton – Newcastle – 9m; 13 points (two goals against Arsenal, consistently gets good points at good value)
Strikers
Robin van Persie – [[Arsenal]] – 21.3m; 14 points (in good form)
Daniel Sturridge – Bolton – 19.2m; 12 points (gets an opportunity on loan, scores twice)
Coaches
[[Tottenham:Harry Redknapp]] – Tottenham> – 10m; 10 points (good value)
Kenny Dalglish – Liverpool – 10.2m; 10 points (pretty good value for a club sitting seventh)
