The world's most popular sport
Soccer is the world’s most popular sport. No other sport is being played and watched by so many people. The question is however if soccer (or football as it’s called in Europe) will continue to be the number one sport for ever. I personally think that it will.
Unlike for example ice hockey, it can be played all over the world, and with fairly cheap equipment. American football hasn’t quite taken off outside America, a lot of people feel that the rules are too complicated. Plus not a lot of kids in the poor neighbourhoods of South America are likely to be able to afford the necessary equipment to play American football.
To make a long story short, there isn’t really another sport that could challenge soccer as the world’s most popular sport.

HI I like Ice Cream!!!
I personally agree that soccer is the best sport in the world
It has been played since the Aztecs came up with it and has lasted through history. How many other sports do you know that have lasted that long???
american football sucks and it is for people who are too afraid to get hit without pads... people say football isnt physical at all but only people who have played know it is.. plus what other sport do you know of that had someone headbutt someone else in a game
HOCKEY IS GOOD, RUGBY FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL ARE GREAT TOO BUT NOTHING - NOTHING CAN BEAT SOCCER. YOU USE HAND EVERYDAY AND YOU HAVE MUCH MORE CONTROL IN USING IT. SOCCER IS PLAYED WITH FEET AND IT TAKES ALOT AND ALOT OF PRACTICE TO BE PROFESSIONAL AND THAT'S WHY IT'S THE MOST POPULAR SPORTS - I AM NOT DISRESPECTING OTHER SPORTS BUT FOR ME "NOTHING BEATS THE THRILL TO PLAY SOCCER" SOMEONE'S TALKING ABOUT MAN'S SPORTS - COME ON - STRAIGHT BEING PHYSICAL IN RUBY'S GONNA MAKE THE WORLD BEST SPORTS??????........TELL ME SOMETHING - what do you think - rugby player to be soccer player is harder or - soccer player to be rugby player - build some muscles and go kick someone ass - but you can't get golder leg to be pro. you probably have to come in earth again to be soccer pro. mans sports????? HELLOW!!!! foot sport!!!
No other game can surpass football it's so cheap to play, north american on a whole seeems to be living in this bubble while the rest of the world is football mad.

Rugby requires more brute force than technical skills. Football is more about combining finesse, brute force, technical skill and tactics. Man's game??? I would like to see you play 70 minutes of field hockey on astro turf and then tell me that Rugby is the only "Man's Game".

Football is the most natural sport for mankind (played in cultures all over the world even before it's codification under the official rules of association football), the most egalitarian (you don't get any advantage just for being tall/fat/bulky, etc.), the simplest (no unnecessarily complex rules), and the most accesible (all you need is a ball). I would say that the ACCESSIBILITY of football (soccer) makes it the world's most popular sport. Other sports can be shortsighted. Soccer strives to be everyone's sport, and because of that, it's the most popular. Only makes sense. If you make a sport for a specific type of person, you limit the number of people who can participate in that sport, thus limiting the number of people who will take passionate interest in it. If you have a sport with a broader base, it will be much more popular. It also helps that it's a sport that comes naturally to mankind, and not a sport invented by any one person in recent history (such as basketball and volleyball). The sport is built into us. It just "makes sense".
