Soccer is the world’s most popular sport. No other sport is being played and watched by so many people. The question is however if soccer (or football as it’s called in Europe) will continue to be the number one sport for ever. I personally think that it will.

Unlike for example ice hockey, it can be played all over the world, and with fairly cheap equipment. American football hasn’t quite taken off outside America, a lot of people feel that the rules are too complicated. Plus not a lot of kids in the poor neighbourhoods of South America are likely to be able to afford the necessary equipment to play American football.

To make a long story short, there isn’t really another sport that could challenge soccer as the world’s most popular sport.

It's call FUTBOL in latin american contries and FOOTBALL in english speaking countries in europe.....I once told someone from england 1 time that I liked soccer (live in the US) she told me WTF is soccer I said sorry but that's how it's called here so if you call it Football they'll think is american football BS.

Soccer is an awesome and well known sport. The one thing I don't like about it is that it has a different name than every other country. It doesn't even make sense that it has a different name because it was established before american "football" was established.

What is it about dumb soccer critics who always use poverty as an excuse to compare soccer to American football, hockey or other sports? Poverty has absolutely nothing to do with it. There are millions of kids in South America and throughout the world -even the poor ones, who can easily afford to buy all that senseless equipment, but are too sophisticated to do so because they know that American football is just a merchandising -advertising -marketing brainwash! There is no talent at all in a sport designed mainly to feed "Barbarian Egos". The accumulated action in American football is a total of 11 minutes per game (Google the Wall Street Journal 11 minutes of action). This tells me football players are not athletes at all. How can they be; when they are not put through the basic test of stamina, endurance, pressure and concentration - the human drama of athletic competition? What’s really sad is the amount of money paid to these so called athletes who are nothing, but a fraud! The $ millions they make should go to the 49 million people living below the poverty line in the United States. I love America, but have no more patience for stubborn idiots who think they know everything about the world.

In contrast, soccer is the "Beautiful Game" - The games’ magical blend of simplicity and complexity excites the genius of the imagination and creativity on the go. On the one hand minimal (but logical) rules, an elemental appeal to the instincts of combatant and juggler, a minimum of paraphernalia. On the other an almost infinite range of tactical variations under pressure, of combinations between set plays and improvisation, of balances between technical finesse, speed, power and physical bravery. The stamina requirement is awesome; of mind as well as body. With the passing of time, the game usually goes to the fleet of mind rather than foot.

Eliminating ignorance to make a better world…
