Daryl Murphy is a Republic of Ireland football player who currently features for the English Premier League club Sunderland. He can play either as a striker or as a winger.
Daryl Murphy started his professional club football career at Waterford United in 2002 and played for them for three seasons. He was signed by Sunderland in 2005 for 100,000 pounds. Murphy started impressing at the Stadium of Light right from the start and received the League of Ireland Young Player of the Year award in 2005 with Waterford, he cemented a place in the starting XI for Sunderland very son and has now featured in over 80 league matches for the Black Cats, both in the Premier League and outside the top flight.
Daryl Murphy is now considered as one of the most important players in the current Sunderland side and is expected to be develop further in the 2008-2009 season.
Darly Murphy made his international debut for Republic of Ireland in 2007 and has played 9 international matches for his nation so far.
